The main function of the National Water Activity Centre is to introduce Scouts to the fun of the water. This is done by providing a centre where young people and adults can come to learn how to sail, canoe and take part in fun based activities on the water.

You do not have to be an expert; in fact you don't need to have any training at all, bar being able to swim. The centre uses Lelievlet's 'Scout Boats' which have been designed and used extensively by the Dutch Scout organisation. This sturdy metal boat can accommodate 8 young people on board and can be used for sailing and rowing.

If you choose to come to the centre and partake in water activities then we can provide the expertise. You can also use the centre as a base in the Killaloe area to partake in other activities such as hiking, backwoods living, orienteering, exploring, and nature study. Perhaps you just want to have some fun and make rafts.

The centre is fully equipped and can supply boyancy aids, canoes, sailing boats, barrels planks and ropes for rafts. The centre also has rescue craft. There is limited space available if you wish to camp at the centre – about enough space for a Troop camp, detailed information when booking.

It is not the centres aim to provide your full programme for a weekend adventure (it can be done) but rather to provide facilities and activities which you can tap into during your stay. For example you might do some rafting in the morning, then in the afternoon do a hike or overnight bivvy. Maybe doing some sailing the following day.

The centre is always available to help you put together an exciting programme for your section. Talk to us about your plans and hopefully we can help and perhaps add a bit of spice to your adventure in Killaloe.

The centre also operate a Sea Scout Special Interest Group (SIG) for mid-west based scouts and ventures interested water activities and would like to supplement their group programme. More information can be found in the Sea Scout SIG page.
